Customs Unit Seizes Over N5.5bn Contraband Including Cocaine and Mercury

Operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service Federal Operations Unit Zone A intercepted 6.35kg of cocaine valued at N2.35bn during a separate operation along the Lagos–Abidjan corridor. They also seized explosives, petrol, Ghana Loud and four hazardous mercury cylinders weighing 80kg each. The total duty-paid value of all contraband now stands above N5.5bn. Under Operation Hawk, officers recovered 1,540kg of synthetic cannabis across Lagos, Ogun, Oyo and Ondo states. Enforcement actions between February and April 2026 yielded N97.7m in underpaid duties. Customs deployed satellite imagery, drones and predictive analytics to track smuggling networks. Seized items and suspects have been handed to NDLEA and NESREA for investigation and prosecution.
