Super Eagles Defender Christian Akpan Extends Genk Stay Until 2030
Nigerian centre-back Christian Akpan has agreed a new four-year contract with Belgian side KRC Genk, keeping him at the Cegeka Arena through 2030. The deal underscores Genk’s belief in his versatility and long-term potential. Since arriving from Nigeria in 2023, the 21-year-old has impressed through Genk’s youth ranks before breaking into the senior team. He made a remarkable first-team debut against Gent last season, earning Man of the Match honours, and has now featured 59 times for the Smurfs. Genk’s Head of Football, Dimitri de Condé, praised Akpan’s adaptability, noting that his tactical flexibility gives coaches more options during matches. Akpan also marked a personal milestone last month by making his senior international debut for Nigeria in a friendly against Portugal.
