87 Girls Still Missing: Chibok Parents Renew Global Appeal 12 Years After Abduction

87 Girls Still Missing: Chibok Parents Renew Global Appeal 12 Years After Abduction

Twelve years after 276 schoolgirls were seized from their dormitory in Chibok, Borno State, parents say 87 girls remain unaccounted for. They have issued a fresh call for urgent international intervention. In an open letter dated April 13, 2026, family representatives described the ongoing captivity as a painful reminder of unfulfilled promises from both the Nigerian government and global partners. They stressed that the passage of time has not eased the families’ suffering. The parents urged the federal government to step up rescue operations and enforce accountability. They also appealed to the United Nations and other international stakeholders to maintain focus on this crisis and support measures to protect children in conflict-affected areas. Warning against fading global interest, the families insisted that justice and closure cannot be achieved until every missing girl is found. They called for coordinated, transparent action and sustained search efforts until the last girl is safely returned.
