Tinubu Attributes Nigeria’s Slow Growth to Poor Long-Term Planning
President Bola Tinubu said on Tuesday that Nigeria’s development challenges stem from past administrations failing to adopt long-term planning. He made the remarks at the Presidential Villa in Abuja during a visit by an Enugu State delegation led by Governor Peter Mbah. Tinubu explained that successive governments tried to fund long-term projects with short-term resources, a mismatch that hindered sustainable growth. He stressed the importance of a serious, long-term outlook for the country’s future. He praised Governor Mbah’s leadership in Enugu, citing improvements in security, infrastructure, education and healthcare. The president promised continued collaboration between the federal government and states on projects such as the Port Harcourt–Enugu rail line and power sector reforms. Governor Mbah thanked the president for federal interventions, highlighting work on the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, the South East Development Commission and major road and rail projects. He also reaffirmed Enugu’s support for the current administration.
