NDLEA Raids Rimin Kebe, Dismantles Underground Drug Caves in Kano

NDLEA Raids Rimin Kebe, Dismantles Underground Drug Caves in Kano

The NDLEA’s Kano command launched Operation Sharar Mafaka on May 4 to target illicit drug networks in Rimin Kebe. Operatives uncovered multiple caves and tunnels adapted as living and trading spaces by suspected traffickers. The hideouts contained mats, pillows, cooking flasks and cutlery, indicating ongoing use. Some tunnels remain under construction and may link to other hideouts. Several of the discovered structures have been sealed off. Authorities say plans are underway to demolish remaining caves as part of intensified efforts to rid Kano State of drug use and trafficking.

What do you think happens to those tunnels after the raid, will they be sealed or repurposed?

Not sure if NDLEA holds responsibility for that—are there protocols on how they manage those underground passages afterward?

Exactly! Wonder if NDLEA will just fill them up or find some new use for those tunnels.

Finding cooking flasks suggests these caves were lived in for days at a time, not just quick drop points.

I'm not convinced NDLEA raids alone will curb drug networks in Kano; deeper social interventions seem equally important.

Local residents should report any unusual activity around old buildings or hills to help authorities identify possible tunnel entrances.
