Ghana Soldiers and Police Officers Nabbed in Multi-City Robbery Syndicate
Ghana Police Service has arrested two soldiers and three police officers for their role in a robbery syndicate that struck in Accra, Tema, Anyinam, Kumasi and Takoradi. The group targeted victims at gunpoint, stealing cash, gold and mercury. Arrests followed a report by Ivorian investor Mousa Bamba, who was lured to Dzorwulu and robbed of six kilograms of gold valued at US$450,000. Investigations led to the arrest of Mohammed Umaro (alias Alhaji) and Gabriel Sewornu (alias Dangote), along with Lance Corporals Eugene Akurugu and Emmanuel Arko (alias Bullet), Inspector Richmond Osei, Corporal Gideon Anor and Lance Corporal Felix Deku Tetteyga. The police officers have been interdicted pending further inquiries. Additional suspects—including Justin Oduro (alias Don King alias Mafia), Clement Gyasi and Farouk Zakari—were arrested on May 23 and 24. All remain in custody as authorities hunt for other accomplices.
