Can Revenue-Based Representation Make Nigeria’s Federation Fair?
In a fair federation, each state’s stake should match its contribution. Instead of population or other metrics, representation and funding would be tied to a state’s tax revenue. This aligns interests and drives healthy competition among states. It also ensures that resources are spent based on collective needs that federal authorities prioritize. Reviewing representation every five to ten years would encourage continuous improvement. This revenue-based model could even serve as a blueprint for global bodies like the United Nations.
