Victor Osimhen Sued by Mercedes-Benz Over Alleged ₦142m Vehicle Debt

Victor Osimhen Sued by Mercedes-Benz Over Alleged ₦142m Vehicle Debt

German automaker Mercedes-Benz has filed a complaint with Italian authorities, claiming Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen failed to complete payments on a leased vehicle from 2023 and has not returned the car. The outstanding amount is said to be around €90,000 (about ₦142 million). Osimhen’s career has taken him from Belgium and France to Serie A and the Turkish Süper Lig, where he earned league titles with Napoli and Galatasaray. His annual earnings at Galatasaray exceed €20 million, and he often shares his luxury lifestyle online, featuring Lamborghinis, a Rolls-Royce and a Mercedes-Benz—the model in question. Despite his high profile and reputation for generosity towards fans and communities, this dispute could dent his image. His representatives have not yet issued a statement, but fans expect a quick resolution so he can stay focused on his form in Turkey.

What do you think led to Osimhen letting such a high-profile debt go unpaid for so long?

Are we certain the payment timeline was clearly defined, or could ambiguous terms explain the delay?

It's surprising that Mercedes waited this long before taking legal action over that large sum owed by a footballer.

Are we forgetting that vehicle leasing agreements have strict terms, so it's really on Osimhen to honour his contract details.

To avoid similar issues, athletes should keep clear records of lease agreements and settle payments on time to protect their reputation.
