Ejiofor Reacts as Nnamdi Kanu Ends His Retainership, Cites Legal Ethics
Ifeanyi Ejiofor has reacted after Nnamdi Kanu ended his services as personal counsel, saying his silence over years of alleged threats, blackmail and defamatory attacks was guided by legal ethics. Kanu, in a July 22 letter from Sokoto Correctional Centre, directed Ejiofor to stop representing him, his family and IPOB. He also warned against any public disclosure of confidential information obtained during the legal relationship. Ejiofor said he has no intention of breaching lawyer-client privilege. However, he questioned the renewed emphasis on confidentiality and said his silence should not be seen as a lack of facts or evidence. He added that some information could become relevant in an ongoing defamation case involving another party. The exchange marks a fresh public rupture between Kanu and a lawyer who represented him during several years of legal battles.
