UN Health Agencies Ramp Up Ebola Response in Ituri, Eastern DR Congo

UN Health Agencies Ramp Up Ebola Response in Ituri, Eastern DR Congo

The United Nations and its health partners have expanded emergency operations in Ituri Province after a worsening Ebola outbreak. Additional WHO medical teams, protective gear and treatment supplies have been dispatched to affected communities. Specialists are supporting surveillance, lab testing, treatment and public awareness campaigns to slow the virus’s spread. This outbreak involves the Bundibugyo strain, for which no approved vaccine or specific treatment yet exists. Insecurity and displacement in conflict-hit areas are complicating containment efforts. WHO is urging neighbouring countries to strengthen border screening and emergency preparedness. UN agencies are working with Congolese health officials and humanitarian groups to improve case detection, isolate patients and educate residents on prevention measures.
