When Asking ‘Fearless’ in Yoruba Turns into Tribal Insults

I saw a social media post asking for the Yoruba word for someone without fear. Suggestions included akinkanju, onígboyà, and akonni. Before long, some Igbo users hijacked the thread with insults about Yorubas. It quickly degenerated into a tribal battle. I even agree there are cowards among Yorubas. These are the ones afraid of being called tribalistic and willing to accept any nonsense. Call me tribalist if you want. But if you cower just to please others, you deny your heritage. It’s disappointing to call you my brother or sister. Ire o!
