Why Is It So Hard to Discover All the Places in Nigerian Cities Online?

Why Is It So Hard to Discover All the Places in Nigerian Cities Online?

Recently, I needed details about a local spot. It existed, attracted visitors each day and played a role in the community. Yet I couldn’t find complete information about it online. That made me wonder how much of our cities truly exists on the web. Some businesses have websites, others only Instagram or WhatsApp. Events come and go without notice. Many important locations remain known only to locals, leaving us to rely on recommendations or plain luck. I believe the future lies in platforms that map every part of a city—businesses, events and infrastructure—into one structured ecosystem. I’m working on a discovery tool to bridge this gap. What do you think? How do you currently find new places, events or attractions in your city?

Has anyone else noticed local spots that never appear in search results, even when they're popular? How do we uncover them online?

True, some hidden spots just vanish from Google. We need folks to tag and share more.

It's surprising how many community hubs remain invisible, despite regular foot traffic and local recommendations.

I'm not convinced it's just a website problem; maybe online platforms aren't prioritizing local content, not businesses themselves.

Community-driven maps or crowdsourced directories could fill these gaps—organizers can encourage visitors to submit photos and reviews for missing spots.
