1 / 4

The Arewa Cohesion Initiative (ACI) has joined the world in observing World No Tobacco Day on May 31, 2026. Dr. Abdullahi Idris, ACI’s Director General, highlighted tobacco’s role in preventable deaths from heart disease, cancer and respiratory illnesses. Dr. Idris urged governments, health institutions, community and religious leaders, civil society and the media to step up efforts against tobacco use. He stressed that educating young people and promoting tobacco-free environments will protect lives and support sustainable development. ACI called on every Nigerian to make informed choices, reject tobacco, and advocate for healthier communities. The initiative reaffirmed its commitment to awareness campaigns that advance public health, social well-being and environmental protection.
