UNIOSUN Releases Timeline on Final-Year Student’s Passing to Dispel Rumours
Osun State University has addressed misleading accounts surrounding the death of Grace Osunlakin, a final-year Criminology and Security Studies student. According to the university’s preliminary report, Grace completed her project defence on June 23, 2026, showing no signs of illness on campus. An asthmatic patient, she was last treated at the university health centre in March. That evening, she returned from a Christian fellowship with stomach pain. After collapsing at her off-campus residence, friends tried to rush her to a nearby community health centre. Their efforts were hampered by an unannounced Oro ritual restricting movement at night. The matron on duty and a doctor at a specialist hospital confirmed her passing. Her body was later deposited at a funeral home in Ondo State. The university extended condolences and said it will continue reviewing the circumstances.
