British-Nigerian Child Abductor Still on the Run After Prison Release Error
A British-Nigerian father jailed in the UK for abducting his five-year-old son is still at large after a prison staff error allowed him to walk free on April 21. He had one year left to serve at HMP Pentonville before being sent to France. Justice Hayden condemned the “alarming lack of urgency” among prison staff and questioned whether police grasped the seriousness of the case. Officials only realised the mistake two days later and issued alerts to prevent his escape abroad. The father, an engineer, snatched his son from his mother during the boy’s first overnight stay on July 27, 2024. A French court described the incident as among the “most serious”, involving complex planning and long-term deception. UK and French authorities are urgently seeking to recapture him. The Ministry of Justice apologised and announced a major investment to digitise systems and strengthen checks. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact the police immediately.
