U.S. Navy Launches Mine‐Clearing Mission in Strait of Hormuz
The U.S. Central Command has started clearing sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz. Two guided‐missile destroyers, USS Frank E. Peterson and USS Michael Murphy, are now operating in the Arabian Gulf for this mission. Officials say the mines were allegedly laid by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps. The goal is to restore a secure maritime route and protect global commerce. CENTCOM commander Brad Cooper noted this marks the first step in establishing a new safe passage. He added that underwater drones and other assets will join the operation in the days ahead.
