Hisbah Busts Seven-Men Wife-Swapping Ring in Azare, Bauchi

Hisbah Busts Seven-Men Wife-Swapping Ring in Azare, Bauchi

The Hisbah Command in Katagum Zone, Bauchi State has arrested seven men from the Wuddadu group in Azare LGA over an alleged illegal wife-swapping ring. Commander Malam Ridwan Muhammad Khairan said the suspects organised exchanges of married women for sexual and marital activities, a practice he stressed has no basis in Islamic law. He explained the arrests were made by the Operation Ko Ba Kobo unit after residents lodged complaints and dismissed the group’s claim that dreams justified their actions. Under Sharia, he noted, valid marriages must be properly conducted, and this arrangement amounted to adultery. The Hisbah warned against any practice that contradicts religious and moral teachings and urged Muslims to seek proper guidance. Malam Sagir Bashir, leader of the Wuddadu group, said earlier counselling failed to curb the behaviour, prompting referral to authorities. The suspects have expressed remorse as investigations and potential legal action continue.

What measures will Bauchi state authorities take to prevent another wife-swapping ring from resurfacing?

I agree authorities must strengthen local patrols and public education to discourage that kind of crime.

Absolutely, stronger oversight and a dash of community spirit could keep such rings from resurfacing.

It seems surprising that a group of seven men could run such an operation in Azare without community awareness.

Local leaders should collaborate with Hisbah and community groups to raise awareness on legal boundaries and protect families effectively.
