Is King Charles III the True Monarch of South Africa?
I argue that the real head of state in South Africa is King Charles III of England. As a Commonwealth member, South Africa recognises the British monarch as its ceremonial leader. This helps explain why British firms control most of the country’s mines. I remember the Marikana massacre at Lonmin, a London-based mining company. The gold extracted often ends up benefiting the British royal family. Meanwhile, activists like Ngizwe focus on local unrest rather than colonial ties. A Kenyan visitor once asked why Nigerians welcome every black person as a native. He said we cannot be free while living under our former masters’ roof. In my view, South Africa’s colonial legacy still holds the country back.
