Calabar Court Sentences Unlicensed Pharmacy Owner to Eight Years
A Federal High Court in Calabar has convicted a woman for running two unregistered pharmacies in Cross River State. She was found guilty of operating without approval from the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria and allowing unqualified staff to dispense medicines. The defendant ran “24 Hours Pharmaceuticals” on Marian Road and another outlet on Etta Agbor Road. Regulators had sealed both shops, but she removed the seals and resumed business, prompting her prosecution under the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria Act 2022. Officials say the sentence underscores the ongoing crackdown on illegal drug outlets nationwide. Public health experts warn that drugs sold by unlicensed vendors risk treatment failure, resistance, severe reactions, or death.
