FG Unveils Massive Stadium Upgrade Across Nigeria
The Federal Government, through the National Sports Commission, has approved a nationwide renovation project for major stadiums and sports centres. At the heart of the plan is Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, set to receive a revamped pitch, VAR technology, new floodlights, electronic boards, upgraded tracks, modern dressing rooms, an anti-doping lab, sports medical centre and a High Performance Centre. Its 200-bed athletes’ hostel will also be converted into a revenue-generating hotel. Key upgrades are underway at Lagos National Stadium, Ibadan’s Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Kaduna’s Ahmadu Bello Stadium and Kano’s Bichi Stadium. The project also includes 20 mini stadiums and new sports facilities at 15 tertiary institutions to boost grassroots talent discovery and support athletes nationwide.
