INEC Moves to Remove NDC After Court Sets Aside Registration Order

The Independent National Electoral Commission has applied for a certified copy of a recent Federal High Court ruling that nullified an earlier order to register the Nigeria Democratic Congress as a political party. The December 2025 judgment had compelled INEC to recognise the NDC, but Justice Isah Dashen’s latest ruling in Lokoja set aside that decision. The court found the Peace Movement Party’s rights were affected since it was not joined to the suit despite claiming ownership of the contested logo. Counsel for the Peace Movement Party explained that all actions taken under the earlier judgment – including issuing the NDC’s registration certificate and ballot inclusion – must be reversed pending a fresh hearing. INEC will restore the status quo ante until the substantive case is concluded.

It's surprising that a court would first compel INEC to register a party and then reverse itself so quickly.

Wait, did the court explain what changed between its registration order and that swift reversal?

I'm not convinced this back-and-forth signals real fairness; it looks more like political maneuvering than judicial consistency.

INEC should set clear timelines for certified copies and public updates so all parties stay informed and avoid future confusion.
