Abandoned Child at My Gate: Awaiting Social Welfare Registration

Abandoned Child at My Gate: Awaiting Social Welfare Registration

On April 23, 2026, another boy was abandoned at my gate. I have informed the police and will hand him over to the Ministry of Social Welfare. I cannot accept any new children until my lawyers complete the required registration with the Ministry in Rivers State. I must follow the legal procedures. I thank the Ministry of Social Welfare and FIDA Nigeria for guiding me on these requirements. I will contact the authorities to take custody of the boy, as it is unlawful to keep him without proper authorization. I appreciate the support from everyone concerned with helping vulnerable children. Currently, over 500 children are under my care.

How long does the Ministry of Social Welfare registration normally take in Rivers State, and what interim care options exist?

Absolutely, the registration often moves slowly. Meanwhile, a nearby family member or trusted neighbour could offer temporary care.

It's surprising that it takes lawyers and formal registration just to care for abandoned children, even when police involvement is already done.

While I see why you follow protocol, delaying foster care until full registration might leave that boy unsupported longer than necessary.

You fit start reaching out to local volunteers or NGO contacts right now to track the registration status and prepare temporary caretakers.
