NRC Partners with Police to Shut Down Railway Vandals, Recover ₦200M in Stolen Rails

NRC Partners with Police to Shut Down Railway Vandals, Recover ₦200M in Stolen Rails

The Nigerian Railway Corporation has stepped up its collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force and the Railway Police Command to safeguard the country’s rail infrastructure. The joint effort led to the arrest of three suspects allegedly ferrying vandalised railway materials from Niger State to Lagos. During a courtesy visit to the Oyo State Police Headquarters in Ibadan, the NRC Managing Director reaffirmed the corporation’s commitment to intelligence sharing and joint operations. The recovered materials—valued at about ₦200 million—mark a significant breakthrough in the fight against vandalism, theft and sabotage of rail assets. Both NRC and police officials urged stiffer penalties for those who damage critical infrastructure. They also appealed to Nigerians to support security agencies by reporting any suspicious activity. The NRC says it will continue strengthening partnerships with state governments, host communities and other stakeholders to ensure uninterrupted and safe rail services nationwide.
