UN Envoy Jimoh Ibrahim Assures ECOWAS: Nigeria Will Defeat Insurgency

UN Envoy Jimoh Ibrahim Assures ECOWAS: Nigeria Will Defeat Insurgency

Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim assured ECOWAS envoys in New York that Nigeria will overcome its insurgency challenges. He cited the nation’s survival of the civil war and fight against Boko Haram as proof of its resilience. He urged deeper thinking beyond missiles, warning that security issues stem from generational grievances. He said overreliance on military force has slowed progress and called for non-kinetic solutions alongside kinetic operations. He noted that President Bola Tinubu is pursuing comprehensive measures to address insecurity and strengthen democratic governance. Jimoh stressed the need for regional collaboration on security, economic integration and monetary cooperation. Sierra Leone’s UN envoy praised his arrival and Nigeria’s leadership role in Africa’s diplomacy. The event also included calls for support of Nigeria’s candidate for the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women.
