South Africa Reach World Cup Knockouts with 1-0 Win Over South Korea

South Africa Reach World Cup Knockouts with 1-0 Win Over South Korea

South Africa secured a historic 1-0 victory over South Korea in their final Group A match in Mexico. A second-half strike from Thapelo Maseko clinched the result. Bafana Bafana finished second behind co-hosts Mexico. They will now face Canada in the round of 32 on June 28. South Korea threatened early but could not break down South Africa’s defence. Maseko’s goal in the 62nd minute proved decisive, sending South Africa into the knockout stage for the first time since 1998.

I agree, they stayed compact at the back and cut out dangerous passes effectively all match.

It's hard to ignore that South Africa struggled to create chances until Maseko finally broke through late in the second half.

I'm not convinced Canada will be an easy opponent, no be small task despite South Africa's recent form.

Focusing on tight midfield control and counterattacks might be South Africa's best strategy to maintain their advantage in the round of 32.
