Nigerian Cancer Survivor Shuts Down Critic Who Says Her Awareness Posts “Scare Men Away”

Nigerian Cancer Survivor Shuts Down Critic Who Says Her Awareness Posts “Scare Men Away” — 1 of 6
1 / 6

I’m Udeze Chinenye Gloria. I survived stage two breast cancer at 25. I underwent a single mastectomy and six rounds of chemotherapy. Someone told me my constant updates about cancer were driving men away. He said I should stop posting pictures from my treatment. I replied that I will never stop sharing my journey or raising awareness for others battling this disease. I have a partner who stood by me from diagnosis to recovery. He told me we would fight this together. If he couldn’t accept my mission to inspire others, then he wasn’t the right person for me. No one should silence stories that give hope. I’ll keep speaking out for fellow cancer fighters.

I'm curious: how has sharing your cancer journey shaped your relationships and support network since you began posting updates?

Absolutely, being transparent about tough moments often sparks genuine support and brings us closer to friends and family.

It's interesting to see someone push back against criticism by using awareness as empowerment rather than seeking approval from men.

I understand raising awareness, but those treatment photos can overshadow the message and risk overwhelming followers instead of educating them.

Consider balancing personal updates with clear educational posts on early detection and support resources to maintain engagement without deterring potential allies.
