NCDC Assures Nigerians: We Are Ready to Tackle Ebola
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control says there’s no need to panic over the Bundibugyo Ebola strain. Dr. Biodun Ogunniyi, Head of Health Emergency Preparedness at NCDC, stressed that Nigeria’s public health systems are well prepared. He noted that the 2014 Ebola response proved the country’s ability to stop the virus in under 70 days. Since then, Nigeria has expanded its laboratory network and strengthened its Public Health Emergency Operations Centre. With national reference labs in Abuja and Lagos and upgraded in-country detection capacity, the NCDC is confident in its ability to quickly identify and contain any Ebola case.
