Nigerian National Arrested in Ghana Over Police Uniform Impersonation

Nigerian National Arrested in Ghana Over Police Uniform Impersonation — 1 of 4
1 / 4

The Ghana Police Service has taken into custody a Nigerian woman after she posted videos of herself wearing official police camouflage and the standard black police uniform on social media. The footage sparked public outrage and raised concerns about unauthorised use of police attire. Investigations by the IGP’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team revealed a connection between the suspect and a serving police officer. That officer, who reportedly lent the uniform to the suspect for washing, has been invited to assist with the inquiry. The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue. The Ghana Police Service has issued a warning that anyone found abusing or impersonating police uniforms will face prosecution under the law.

How do you think authorities can prevent similar cases of uniform impersonation on social media in future?

I agree. Authorities could verify uniforms on social channels, monitor uploads for fakes, and boost public awareness.

I agree. Tighter verification of official uniforms online makes sense, though realistic monitoring of every account seems challenging.

It's surprising that someone could easily access official police attire and post such footage without immediate pushback.

Security agencies should improve uniform issuance tracking and monitor social platforms for unauthorized use promptly.
