IGP Visits Adeleke, Vows Crackdown on Pre-Election Violence in Osun

IGP Visits Adeleke, Vows Crackdown on Pre-Election Violence in Osun — 1 of 3
1 / 3

The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, says all those behind recent violence in Osun State will be pursued and prosecuted ahead of the August 15 governorship election. During a visit to Governor Ademola Adeleke at the Government House in Osogbo, the IGP expressed concern over rising killings, clashes and political tensions. He warned that an election is not a war and ordered no tolerance for thuggery. Disu deployed his DIG to work with state authorities and directed the Commissioner of Police to arrest anyone causing trouble, including suspects reportedly hiding in the Government House. He urged parents to discourage their children from being used as political thugs. Governor Adeleke welcomed the IGP’s visit and asked security agencies to arrest anyone involved in the violence, regardless of party or personal ties.

With the IGP promising to pursue perpetrators, how can we ensure these measures really curb violence before the election?

Right, transparent reporting and local oversight committees can keep us informed and hold them accountable.

It's curious that the IGP chose to visit the governor now, but similar promises have been made without lasting results before.

I'm not convinced mere threats will deter political thugs; real change requires deeper reforms in policing and community engagement.

Vigilance committees and real-time reporting might help track violence incidents; citizens should register incidents promptly with local authorities ahead of polling day.
