Chief Oby Christie Ndukwe Applauds Plans to Create Anioma State

Chief Oby Christie Ndukwe, investigative journalist and president of the Citizens Quest for Truth Initiative, has applauded the campaign to create Anioma State. She describes it as a “non-kinetic” approach to the Igbo struggle for political reparation and integration. She notes the idea began in the 8th Senate and may come to life under the 10th Senate led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and championed by Senator Ned Nwoko. Under the proposal, Asaba will become Anioma State’s capital while Warri will serve as the new capital of Delta State, and Anioma will be zoned to the South-East as its sixth state. According to Ndukwe, President Bola Tinubu’s move addresses the imbalance in state creation that has limited South-East representation at the National Assembly. She believes it will boost political inclusion for marginalized Igbo communities and fulfill Delta State’s long-held dream of a capital in Warri. She says there is no valid reason to oppose the proposal and commends everyone who has worked on the quest, including herself.

Applauding a new Anioma State sounds hopeful, but I wonder if it will address the deeper issues of political representation.

It's ambitious to treat this campaign as purely peaceful; what if underlying tensions still lead to conflicts later?

Stakeholders should map out clear governance structures and resource plans to ensure Anioma State efforts remain sustainable and accountable.
