Countdown to Okpekpe 10km: Oshiomhole and Ahmed Appointed Ambassadors

Countdown to Okpekpe 10km: Oshiomhole and Ahmed Appointed Ambassadors — 1 of 2
1 / 2

With one month to go before the World Athletics Gold Label Okpekpe International 10km Road Race, organisers have named former Edo governor Adams Oshiomhole and Yasser Ahmed as event ambassadors. Pamodzi Sports Marketing highlighted their contributions: Oshiomhole built the original race road in 2013, while Ahmed, CEO of Premier Sports Timing, has overseen precise timing since the event’s inception. Set for May 23 in Okpekpe town, the race is one of just three Gold Label road events in Africa and the first in West Africa. Beyond athletics, the event has boosted tourism and the local economy, turning Okpekpe into a vibrant hub of culture and commerce.

Appointing a former governor as ambassador seems more political than athletic, potentially missing the event's core running spirit and community vibe.

Organisers should arrange community training runs with ambassadors to boost local engagement and help runners familiarise themselves with the 10km course.
