Lagos Seals 827 Sites in Year-Long Safety Crackdown
The Lagos State Government has shut 827 construction sites over the past 12 months to tackle unsafe and unapproved developments. The state’s Materials Testing Laboratory now uses an intelligence-driven system to detect violations before they lead to collapse. It issued more than 3,000 notices and carried out over 800 compliance operations. A digital testing platform with unique sample codes and a three-stage test requirement has been introduced. All sites are geotagged for remote monitoring, and only accredited labs may issue valid certificates. Residents are urged to insist on valid quality-assurance test reports before occupying new buildings to help prevent future collapses.
