INEC Colluding with Tinubu to Enforce One-Party Vote in 2027, Analyst Warns

An analyst has accused INEC of working in concert with the ruling party to weaken opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections. He spoke on a TV political programme, alleging that the commission is exploiting internal disputes within PDP, Labour Party, ADC and SDP to sideline credible challengers before final candidate lists are published. The critic warned that INEC’s “double standards” risk eroding public confidence and narrowing Nigeria’s political space by refusing to take a firm stance on factional disputes. He added that remaining neutral between rival factions only encourages conflict and undermines democratic principles.

I don't buy that INEC can single-handedly manipulate outcomes without broader political backing and systemic support for such a scheme.

Civil society groups should monitor polling units closely and document any irregularities to hold INEC accountable ahead of the 2027 elections.
