The Federal Government has rolled out a two-week vocational and skills acquisition programme for over 18,000 artisans and unemployed youths across Nigeria. Training will take place at 229 accredited centres in all 36 states and the FCT. Participants will receive hands-on instruction in 14 trades, including automobile technology, agriculture, carpentry, electrical installation, fashion design, welding, hospitality and more. Each trainee will also get entrepreneurship lessons in business management, financial and digital literacy, customer relations and sustainability. At the end of the programme, qualified beneficiaries will take home trade-specific starter packs to kick-start their businesses. A digital tracking system and monitoring framework will ensure accountability and proper use of equipment. Selections were made through a transparent process involving community leaders, youth and women groups, persons with disabilities and relevant government agencies. Priority was given to vulnerable and economically disadvantaged Nigerians ready to build sustainable livelihoods.
