JAMB Steps In After Hijab Dispute at Ibadan UTME Centre
Tension broke out at the Esther Oshikoya CBT Centre in Ibadan during Thursday’s UTME session when female candidates wearing hijabs were reportedly stopped from entering the exam hall or asked to remove their headscarves. Observers called the move a violation of religious freedom and pointed out that JAMB rules permit candidates to wear hijabs. Soon after, officials from JAMB’s Oyo State office arrived to take charge of the situation. Calm was gradually restored as measures were put in place to let affected students sit their exams with their head coverings on. JAMB has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
