NDLEA Seizes 7.2 Tonnes of Cannabis in Edo, Five Suspects Arrested

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted two trucks carrying 7,245kg of skunk cannabis in Edo State. The drugs, valued at about ₦724.5 million, were hidden among alcoholic drinks. Edo State Commander Mitchell Ofoyeju announced the seizure at a press briefing in Benin City. He described it as the largest haul in the command’s history and said the shipment originated from Sabongida-Ora and was bound for Abuja. Five suspects from Etsako East and West LGAs have been arrested. The vehicles and contraband are now at NDLEA headquarters for documentation and further investigation. The agency called on citizens to keep providing timely information to help disrupt drug trafficking networks.

Increasing random vehicle checks and deploying more drug-sniffing dogs along major highways could deter smugglers from using similar concealment tactics.
