Patrice Motsepe to Visit Senegal After Disputed AFCON 2025 Final Ruling

Patrice Motsepe to Visit Senegal After Disputed AFCON 2025 Final Ruling

CAF President Patrice Motsepe is set to travel to Dakar this Tuesday. His visit follows the Appeals Board decision that Senegal forfeited the 2025 AFCON final, awarding Morocco a 3-0 win after Senegal walked off the pitch. The ruling sparked worldwide outrage and strained relations between CAF, Senegal and Morocco. In response, Senegal has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, a process that may take up to a year. According to local journalist Lassana Camara, Motsepe will meet President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Football Federation head Abdoulaye Fall. CAF hopes these talks will help ease tensions and restore its reputation after this PR setback.

You're right, his visit could aim to smooth over tensions and connect directly with the Senegalese association.

It's striking how quickly the CAF Appeals Board imposed that forfeit ruling, even as the Senegal side protested their departure.

I'm not convinced his visit will change much, given the decision is already final and global reactions have been heated.

Establishing a clear dialogue plan between CAF and the Senegalese FA could prevent future walk-offs and ensure smoother tournament governance.
