Lagos Faces Power Crisis as Egbin Plant Shuts Down
At 8:21 p.m. on April 28, 2026, Egbin Power Station dropped from 641 MW to zero output. A central compressor failure and a malfunctioning pump forced an immediate shutdown of all generating units. This loss has significantly reduced national generation capacity. A concurrent outage on the Osogbo–Ikeja West 330 kV line has further restricted power flow into Lagos. With both generation and transmission constrained, Lagos may experience prolonged blackouts. Residents and businesses are advised to prepare for possible power interruptions until repairs are completed.
