NAFDAC Launches Nationwide Crackdown on Sachet Alcohol Under 200ml
NAFDAC has begun a countrywide operation to remove alcoholic drinks packaged in sachets and small PET bottles (below 200ml) from circulation. This enforcement upholds the Federal Government’s ban on these products. Teams are active across all six geopolitical zones. They are inspecting markets, motor parks, retail outlets, bars and other distribution channels to seize and destroy banned items. Manufacturers, importers, distributors, wholesalers, retailers and transporters have been urged to surrender any remaining stock. The agency warned that continued possession or sale of these products will attract seizure, regulatory sanctions and prosecution. It stressed that compliant producers operating within approved pack sizes are not affected. NAFDAC called on Nigerians to report anyone producing, stocking or selling unregistered sachet or below-200ml PET-bottle alcohol. The agency said these products are unsafe, illegal and pose serious public health risks, especially to children and adolescents.
