Heading to Civil Court to Reform Nigerian Football Governance

Heading to Civil Court to Reform Nigerian Football Governance — 1 of 2
1 / 2

I was shocked by Italy’s repeated failure to reach the World Cup. Their Sports Minister forced the federation president to resign. This shows governments can intervene without FIFA sanctions. Nigeria has also missed two straight World Cups. Our Sports Minister offered only mild reforms after Nigeria’s poor performance. Past constitutional changes by President Buhari were ignored. The current NFF board remains stuck in outdated rules. I plan to file a suit in a Nigerian civil court to pause upcoming NFF elections. I will ask judges to review our constitution and election process. The goal is to ensure fairness, equity, and compliance with FIFA norms. Nigeria needs a simple, transparent governance model. Elections should be inexpensive, open, and held in Abuja. Only legitimate members should vote. This new structure can revive Nigerian football.

What lessons can Nigeria learn from Italy's minister pushing for federation leadership change without FIFA sanction?

True talk. Nigeria must study Italy's court move, balancing legal reform with maintaining FIFA's approval.

I agree. Italy's model shows reform can happen legally and swiftly. Nigeria could adapt that blend of bold moves and respect for FIFA rules.

It's interesting that our Sports Minister only offered mealy words after two straight World Cup absences.

Going to court may distract from overdue grassroots investment in local leagues; real change requires rebuilding from the bottom up.

Start by auditing the National League's finances and enforcing transparent contracts, then scale reforms to the federation level.
