René van der Gijp Tells Raheem Sterling to Quit Football and Head to Ibiza

René van der Gijp Tells Raheem Sterling to Quit Football and Head to Ibiza

Former Netherlands international René van der Gijp has slammed Raheem Sterling’s slow start at Feyenoord. Since leaving Chelsea, Sterling has recorded just one assist in five Eredivisie appearances. On the Willem & Wessel podcast, van der Gijp urged Sterling to admit defeat, call it quits and spend his days relaxing in Ibiza. Fellow pundit Willem van Hanegem backed this view, suggesting the club should ask for their money back and send Sterling home. Despite the criticism, head coach Robin van Persie remains supportive. He believes Sterling needs more time to regain form and pledges to give him chances to make a real impact on and off the ball.

That suggestion does feel over the top, but imagining Sterling lounging in Ibiza is oddly amusing.

Na small sample size, but one assist from five Eredivisie appearances still feels below par for someone of Sterling's reputation.

Calling for a permanent move to Ibiza sounds more like sensational podcast banter than a constructive suggestion for improving his game.

Rather than mocking his form, Feyenoord could assign Sterling extra tactical sessions to rekindle his confidence and sharpen his attacking instincts.
