Baze University Chancellor Commits ₦25M to Indigenous Knowledge Research
On June 9 at Baze University in Abuja, academics, policymakers, traditional rulers and students gathered for the Seventh Inaugural Lecture delivered by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Abiodun Adeniyi. In his talk “How Your Village Is Following You,” Prof. Adeniyi explained how memories and identities travel with migrants and how mobile technology now strengthens ties to home. Founder and Chancellor Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed highlighted the importance of Nigeria’s intellectual heritage. He pledged ₦25 million to support research on the indigenous Nigerian calendar and urged scholars to preserve and document traditional knowledge. Speakers including former Deputy Speaker Emeka Ihedioha and the Obaro of Kabba praised the university’s vision. The event sparked wide discussions on culture, migration and the role of technology in sustaining community bonds.
