RSUTH and KNCV Launch Free Tuberculosis Treatment in Rivers State

RSUTH and KNCV Launch Free Tuberculosis Treatment in Rivers State

The Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH), led by Prof. Chizindu Alikor, has partnered with the KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation to offer free TB treatment on its Port Harcourt campus. Dr. Godwin Iche, RSUTH’s Community Health lead, spoke on Silver Bird Radio and urged anyone with symptoms—persistent cough, chest pain, night sweats, weight loss or fatigue—to come forward for screening. He reminded listeners that tuberculosis is serious but curable when detected and treated early. This initiative reflects RSUTH’s commitment to improving public health and reducing the spread of TB in Rivers State. All services, including testing, counselling and medication, are provided at no cost to patients.

Spot on. Ensuring dedicated community health workers and mobile clinics makes rural follow-up more reliable.

I'm not convinced they can handle follow-up in remote areas without beefed-up local clinics and staff.

It's impressive RSUTH and KNCV offer free TB treatment, but funding sustainability could be a real challenge over time.

I'm not convinced the hospital can handle extra TB cases without more trained staff and resources at RSUTH.

Local NGOs and community centers should partner with RSUTH to spread awareness and ensure patients complete their full TB treatment course.
