Court of Appeal Orders PENCOM to Pay N10m and Workers’ Back Pay

Court of Appeal Orders PENCOM to Pay N10m and Workers’ Back Pay

The Court of Appeal in Abuja awarded N10 million in costs against the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) and its chairman for unfair labour practices involving 20 staff led by Ismalia Gizali. The judges held that the employment letters issued on May 2, 2017 established a valid six-month probationary contract. PENCOM’s claim that the contracts were conditional and inchoate was rejected. The court set aside the National Industrial Court’s ruling and ordered PENCOM to pay the workers six months’ salaries, allowances and the legal costs.
