Onanuga Tells Atiku to Abandon 2027 Bid, Defends North-South Power Rotation

Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, has slammed Atiku Abubakar over his recent interview on power rotation. Onanuga accused the former Vice President of using “dubious arithmetic” to justify sidelining the North-South agreement for his personal ambitions. He recalled how Atiku’s decision to challenge a fellow northerner in 2023 fractured the PDP and led to his defeat. Onanuga warned that attempting the same strategy in 2027 would invite another “spectacular failure.” The presidential aide argued that since former President Buhari served a full eight-year term, Bola Tinubu must complete his own tenure, ensuring that the South retains its turn in 2027. Onanuga insisted that Atiku should “bury the thought of running again” or risk repeating history.
