Lionel Messi remains the highest-paid player in Major League Soccer after signing a contract extension with Inter Miami that sets his base pay at $25m (£18.5m). The deal guarantees him $28.3m (£20.9m) overall, more than double the next highest earner. LAFC’s Son Heung-min ranks second with a $10.4m (£7.7m) base salary and $11.2m (£8.3m) guaranteed, edging out Rodrigo de Paul and Hirving Lozano. Since joining Miami in 2023, Messi has scored 59 goals in 64 regular-season games, led the league with 29 goals last season, won the 2025 MLS Cup and claimed MVP honours in both full seasons he’s played.
