Eight Dumping Offenders in Abeokuta Sentenced to Community Service

Eight Dumping Offenders in Abeokuta Sentenced to Community Service — 1 of 2
1 / 2

A magistrate court in Isabo, Abeokuta, has ordered eight people to perform community service for dumping waste on public roads at Isale-Igbein, Car Wash and Abiola Way. The defendants were prosecuted by the Ogun State Waste Management Authority for breaching the Public Health Law and the OGWAMA Law. The court heard that their actions created foul odours, encouraged fly breeding and increased cholera risk. Indiscriminate dumping also worsens flooding, endangering lives and property. Magistrate A.K. Araba found them guilty and directed that their cleanup work be displayed on the court notice board. Future offenders face imprisonment without an option of fine. OGWAMA’s managing director praised the ruling. He urged residents to use approved waste managers or face prosecution under state sanitation laws.
