João Cancelo: ‘Guardiola Didn’t Treat Me Fairly’ at Manchester City

João Cancelo has opened up about his time under Pep Guardiola after his move to Barcelona. He says he felt unfairly treated by the City manager. Cancelo joined Manchester City in 2019 and played a key role in winning three Premier League titles, the FA Cup and the League Cup. Those years were among the most successful of his career. His relationship with Guardiola changed at the start of the 2022/23 season. He lost his place to young Rico Lewis and felt disappointed by the new treatment. In an interview with Canal 11, the Portugal international spoke candidly about how the situation affected him.

I hear Cancelo's point, but Guardiola's style has always mixed strictness and support. Hard to call that new.

Maybe Cancelo moving to Barcelona will offer him fresh motivation and a fairer role, hopefully leading to stronger performances.
