APC Leaders Urged to Defend Democratic Process in Kwara Governorship Primary

APC Leaders Urged to Defend Democratic Process in Kwara Governorship Primary — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Abdulmajeed Abdullahi, convener of the Legacy 2027 group, has criticized the APC’s recent governorship primary in Kwara State. He argues the process deviated from core democratic principles after Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq endorsed Ambassador AbdulFatai Yahaya Seriki Gambari and other aspirants stepped down in a consensus arrangement. Abdullahi says Gambari’s broad appeal and philanthropy earned widespread enthusiasm. But a sudden postponement of voting, late arrival of materials and the declaration of Yakubu Danladi raised serious questions about the legitimacy of the outcome. He stresses the issue is about ensuring a fair process, not targeting any individual. Many elders fear a repeat of the internal injustices that gave rise to the “O to ge” movement, underscoring deep divisions ahead of the 2027 elections.

Party officials should set up an independent committee to review the primary process and address any irregularities before finalizing results.
