Ex-Psychologist on Trial Claims Maradona Suffered Bipolar Disorder and Narcissism
New court testimony has shaken the trial over Diego Maradona’s 2020 death. Psychologist Carlos Diaz, charged with reckless manslaughter, described the football legend as both bipolar and narcissistic. Diaz told a Buenos Aires court that he first saw Maradona a month before his passing. He said Maradona drank wine despite serious health warnings and needed a strict no-alcohol plan. Toxicology reports showed 23 days without drug use before his final collapse. The trial is probing whether Maradona’s care team, including Diaz and neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luque, failed in their responsibilities. Luque defended the home hospital set-up and insisted it never aimed to match an intensive-care unit. Argentina remains gripped by the case as it seeks answers over the loss of one of football’s greatest icons.
